The worst for last...

Tore out the last of the carpet today. The nastiest of the nasty that was in the kitchen. Who in their right mind would want carpet in the kitchen? As soon as it was out, it was off with it and a load of misc. junk to the landfill. The carpet may get the last laugh though, the glue it left behind wont be coming off the floor very easily, might be easier to lay down some luann, the thin smooth-faced wood sheeting, and then linoleum it.

Got back from the landfill in time to have lunch and then head to Nan's appointment. The last appointment. Tomorrow will be the day. We're going in @ 7am and they'll break the water, hopefully baby will follow quickly after. We're all looking forward to meeting the new little Beach. Exciting and scary at the same time.

Might be a day or two before I post again.

Windows are too clean...

Doesnt seem like I got much done today. Late last night, after I posted to this blog, Dan dropped in with Crystal and helped me move the washing machine from the garage to the basement, earlier I slapped a quick coat of Drylock in the area of where the washer would go, will need another coat sometime, also threw down a pad for it to sit on. Thought everything was good to go til it was all hooked up and the old spigots started leaking at the handles when I turned it on. Too late to mess with it too much, so I left it for the morning.

This morning, Nan and I ran into Webster City to the courthouse and got the vehicles registered, they were due, the driver's licenses updated and registered to vote, swung by the "Shopper's Market" there and picked up a couple new spigots for the washer on the way back. Got home and tried removing the old spigots and couldnt get the wrench to turn them off, maybe a few days of tearing carpet has me weakend state, I dont know. I just cut those spigots right off the copper lines.... Off to the local hardware, which is for sale by the way, not sure if the guy is restocking what he's selling either. Luckily I found a couple solder-on 1/2 inch screw ends. Back home and soldering after a couple interruptions, more on that later, we can clean some clothes, I think everyone here is running low on undies. Dryer is coming with Charlie so everything will dry the old fashion way.

The Interruption...
Grammy has been cleaning windows today and doing too good a job. A hawk flew into the window and knocked himself out momentarily, I still cant believe he didnt bust thru. As I approached it, thinking it might be dead since it was completely still, it raised its head and flew away in a hurry, probably out of embarassment. A sparrow doing that, yeah, but a noble hawk? One of the princes of the sky? I hope its pals didnt see, it'll never live that down. I'm not up on my "raptor" identification, too small for a red-tailed hawk for sure. Might have been a falcon or a kite.

Carpet off the stairs, Nan did it will I was messing around in the basement, that naughty girl...

The Washer is in, you can see the computer in the background.

A day downunder...

Spent today in the basement cleaning and painting and working to get the dampness out. Some DryLok Masonry Waterproofer on the walls will brighten things up and hopefully keep some of the moisture out. Still alot of painting to go.

Got a couple of the windows opened up and the fans a blowing. Gabe gave us a dehumidifier which should help alot. Focused on the shelves so that we'll have some more storage area ready when we begin tearing into kitchen. Still alot to do down here though, even after a full day at it.

Still no baby.

A day outside...

Too nice to be indoors, so most of the day was spent cleaning up the outside, cutting down trees and pulling weeds around the house. Met a couple neighbors and Karl a retired guy across the street was nice enough to come over with his riding mower and make hay in the yard. Maybe tomorrow I'll bail it up.

Still no baby....

A whirlwind weekend...

Sunday accomplishments...

Look, Ma, no more carpet...

Man, was it some nasty carpet in the bath. Vanity had to come out to get underneath.

Friday and Saturday accomplishments...

When is a window a door?....
When you cant get a couch in any other way.

Tired tonight so this will be brief. Got this very nice high speed internet on Friday afternoon, though this is the first I've had a moment to spend trying it out....sitting here on a kitchen chair in the middle of the basement floor...more on that later. We closed on Friday morning, that went well. Raced up to Stratford after. Ripped out carpet in the dining, living and one bedroom, all the while trying to keep the prego wifey out of too much trouble, its hard making that girl sit, in fact its impossible. Good thing Grammy took Ev or I'd have went over the deep end. Dan came up after he got off and we made a run to Scott's for mattresses and couch. Though when we got back we found all doors are 32 inchers, too narrow for couch. Good thing for wide windows, but waited til Saturday for that and couch lived in garage for awhile. Hallejuah! We got to sleep on our own mattress in our own house Friday night, errr, Saturday morning. My good helpers came Saturday morning also, that is when the sun was up, and we got most of the stuff moved into the decarpeted living and dining rooms and bedroom. Saturday night was more carpets. Is today Sunday? I guess so. Made another run and finished off the storage shed, also used the moving van to pick up a tub surround. The weekend is a blur. No baby yet but very soon I think....
